Brick Lane

Saturday night Taylor and I experienced some amazing curry from Brick Lane. We've been told it's the best place to find curry, and boy were they right. We ate at Aladin, ranked as the best curry by Prince Charles himself. So of course we took his word and went to try it out. Well Prince Charles seems to know what he's talking about, because our meal was delicious. Even though we had absolutely no idea what we had ordered, it was amazing! And even though my mouth was on fire, I enjoyed every single bite.

Also, I've realized some significant differences between British people and Americans. Saturday, we decided to check out the National History Museum. Much to our surprise, the line to get in was ridiculously long. It took us over an hour of waiting in line only to finally get inside and be surprised by the massive amounts of people. And I told Taylor, "only the British would stand in line for over an hour just to visit a museum." That would be unheard of in the US. But, that's why I love it here. Because everyone here is a museum junkie, and they make me feel right at home.

Alright, well I'm off to work on my Shakespeare adaptation presentation. It involves me watching numerous Macbeth adaptations, woohoo.

Taylor and I are off to Stonehenge and Bath this weekend, stay tuned for details!

london stroll

Even though I live in Egham, I've been making numerous trips to London every week. I just can't get away from it, there's so much to see. Tuesday after my lectures were over, I headed to the city to do some sightseeing on my own. Of course, nature wasn't on my side, and the weather was pretty bad that day, so I wasn't able to roam around the city as much as I wanted. I made a couple of stops during the day, then met up with my friend Taylor and headed out to Abbey Road. Believe or not, I didn't take a single picture of the epic moment. By the time we arrived the sun had gone down, so I felt that my pictures wouldn't give it justice. But believe me, it was epic.

As soon as I arrived in Waterloo, the weather turned uglier and started raining, so I made a quick walk through Parliament, and by quick I mean I was running to save my camera from getting wet. I headed back to the Tube and headed to the Tate Modern. I spent a long time wandering inside. I was really excited to see Dali's work and Andy Warhol. They had several galleries that were very interesting and a couple that left me completely confused, but that's what art is for, right?
After Tate, the weather had calmed down. I took a walk down the Thames. It was nice to just walk around and take it all in. I still have trouble understanding that I'm actually living here. It's been almost a month since I got here, and I still can't believe it. These past weeks have been amazing and I am so grateful that I am able to experience this.

I made a stop at the Globe theater and did some homework outside in a bench, and what do you know, my homework was to finish Richard III.

The next day, Taylor and I made a trip to Buckingham Palace since I had not seen it. We didn't spend much time there, but we snapped some quick pictures. Afterwards, we headed to Camden and had a nice lunch.

Taylor snapped this picture of Buckingham. It pretty much sums up how the sky looks here everyday. It's hard adjusting to not seeing the sun everyday, especially coming from Arizona. But in a way, it makes days with sunshine super exciting and I no longer take it for granted!

photo recap

I'm horrible at documenting my trips. I apologize. Luckily, my friend Taylor snapped a couple of pictures during our adventures.
Last week we went on a walk along the Thames river and stopped by the Globe theater.
We also met up with Emily, who happened to be my best friend in junior high. Small world!

This weekend, we took another trip to Windsor.
And Taylor took a picture of the inside of the castle, which is definitely not allowed.

lack of posts

I realize I've been seriously lacking with updates, I apologize.

Also, I've been horrible at taking pictures, but I promise you, it's been going great. I've been spending most of my free time in the city and touring all the museums. I was lucky enough to meet a great friend and run into someone from my youth (seriously, what are the odds of that?!), and I've been spending most of my time with them. Within the past week, I've gone to the National Gallery, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, London Bridge, the V&A Museum, the Science Museum and the National History Museum. It's been a blast and my museum junky self has been filled with knowledge. I've also managed to become pro with the Tube and getting around London, which has been very helpful. Also, the past couple of days have been freezing here! My Arizona-body can't handle this!

As far as lectures go, they've been kicking my butt and have been up to my neck with reading. But, I'm hoping all this hard work will help me with my Shakespeare understanding.

I pinky promise I will force myself to take more pictures this week!
